Chapter 522: 523: Gu Qichen's Silent Tears
Unexpectedly, Gu Qichen had already gone to bed.
It was pitch-dark in the room.
Even the curtains of the French window were tightly drawn.
Gu Mingzhu didn’t know when Gu Qichen had picked up such habits.
Nowadays, when he was in an emotional breakdown, he would either work like a maniac or sleep for an entire day.
At least, he has quit smoking and drinking now.
That was because of his stomach bleeding from excessive drinking, and pneumonia from adding smoking on top of an existing illness.
Gu Mingzhu was so heart-broken, she wished she could take all his pain on herself.
But she couldn’t help him, and what’s worse, all of this was caused by herself.
The mistakes she had made at a young age finally caught up with her, but instead of punishing her it punished Ah Chen.
Gu Mingzhu turned on the light.
The sudden brightness made Gu Qichen feel dazed.
Because he hadn’t been sleeping at all, he was merely staring at the ceiling with his eyes wide open.
The instant the light was turned on, he blocked his eyes with his quilt.
But Gu Mingzhu still saw.
Even though Gu Qichen had no expression on his face, tears were gushing from the corners of his eyes, covering his whole face.
Gu Mingzhu felt terrified.
Gu Qichen had grown up so much, and she had never seen her son cry.
Even when he was a little baby, he barely cried.
The elder always commented that this child was born without tear glands, a mark of a future emperor.
Indeed, Gu Qichen turned out to be exactly as the elder had predicted.
He was brilliant and highly intelligent.
But he was always emotionally calm, possessing a maturity and serenity beyond his age.
Gu Mingzhu was not really happy with this.
She rather wished her son could have the normal happiness of a child.
Smiling at a flower, feeling happy about eating a candy.
Happiness and sadness were both luxurious emotions for Gu Qichen.
But everything changed after Xia Yangyang appeared.
For a time, she was thankful.
But later she realized, it was the beginning of all disasters.
Gu Mingzhu knew that Gu Qichen didn’t want her to see his vulnerable side.
She pretended not to notice and said casually, “You never eat airline food. Aren’t you hungry after not eating anything for more than ten hours? Maybe you should eat something before going back to bed.”
Gu Qichen remained silent.
Gu Mingzhu continued, “I will leave you alone for now. You should come have some soup later.”
Once Gu Mingzhu had left, Gu Qichen slowly removed his quilt.
Gu Mingzhu did not turn off the light.
The glaring white light seemed unbearably piercing, and all he could think of was Xia Yangyang and that man.
And their child…
Li Zhiqian took Xia Yangyang straight to the Xia family’s villa.
There was still a slight reddish mark on Xia Yangyang’s neck.
With a furrowed brow Li Zhiqian said, “We’d better take you to the hospital and have you checked.
Xia Yangyang shook her head, “This is nothing, he didn’t really squeeze hard.”
It was also what Li Zhiqian thought at the time.
Even though that man looked outrageous enough to destroy the heavens and wreck the earth, when he choked Xia Yangyang, his fingers were trembling, merely pretending to choke but holding back after all.
Even in such a circumstance, there was still a vestige of rationality left in him.
Ultimately, he just couldn’t bear to hurt her.
As if suddenly remembering something, Xia Yangyang asked, “Second brother, you didn’t use much force just now either, did you? His hand, it should be okay, right?”
Li Zhiqian answered calmly, “I didn’t hold back at all. At the very least he has a hairline fracture. He will definitely suffer some for the next couple of weeks.”
